Photographs of the Daumas Family

Above are Madam and Monsieur Daumas at their home in Rabat in 1947. During the months I was stationed at NAS Port Lyautey, the Daumas family opened their home to me and it became my home away from home. Madam Daumas was a piano teacher, and Monsieur Daumas played violin in the Rabat and Casablanca Symphony Orchestras. After France returned Morocco back to Arab control the family returned to France. To this day and 60 years later (2007) I remain in touch with their daughter Hélène and grandson Hervé of Brest, France. Hervé (Hélène's son) is a retired, 20-year French Naval Officer. Over the past, 60 years, they have visited my family here in Wisconsin, and Dolores and I have visited them in France.

Monsieur Daumas with the house pet, Rip. I have never forgotten their Rabat home address: 69 rue dé la Marne, which was two or three blocks from Rabat's USN Shore Patrol Station. Sometimes and when the timing was right, I was permitted to ride back to the Port Lyautey Base in the open Jeep of the changing duty Officers.
