US Naval Air StationPort Lyautey, Morocco

The following photographs and comments were submitted by Dick Allen who arrived in Morocco in 1961. The photographs are of a Slick Airlines aircraft that only landed once at Port Lyautey. In his own words:

"The following pictures portray one of the most unusual planes I saw at Port Lyautey. I didn't know what it was at the time, but have researched it since then.

The aircraft is a Canadair CC-44. This one has the tail art showing it was operated by Slick Aviation. Slick Aviation was a small airline that once tried to merge with Flying Tigers Line in 1954 but failed. It stopped operation in 1958, but was able to resume in October of 1962. This was the only visit of this aircraft I remember and Slick Airways went out of operation in 1965. The CC-44 had a military variant, the C-106 Yukon. I think this is the very same aircraft that will turn up on a photo with a Wikipedia search. The photo on Wikipedia shows the aircraft unloading cars, however that photo is copyrighted and not available for public use".
